Who is Matt Allbritton?

GW's new verbal commitment, that's who. Never heard of him? You're not the only one. He's not on Scout or Rivals and we didn't hear about him before. But who knows, Karl Hobbs has found some diamonds in the rough in the past.

Apparently Matt is a shooter averaging 22 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.8 steals per game at Garland Christian High School in the Dallas burbs. The Dallas Morning News says he made 96 threes this season, while his stats show he made more threes than he attempted, which is pretty impressive, aside from being impossible. He was also second team all-small school in the Palm Beach, Florida area his sophomore year, and he got two basketballs, which I guess means 2 stars, from a Florida recruiting site.

After that he moved to Tejas - he's a religious guy and his family moves a lot to go to different churches. There are more stats here.

So what does this mean for the scholarship situation? I would assume it means no Wesley Witherspoon or Nigel Munson, unless somebody (Miles Beatty?) is leaving the team.

And Matt might be one of these kids, I dunno.

Wait until the NCAA tournament next year and you won't have to ask the question, 'who is Matt Allbritton'. Be prepared to eat your words, so be careful what you say. I am the lucky one who has seen Matt play in high school, and he can hold his own against anyone. He chose GW out of several opportunities. You better be thanking your luck stars and say thanks to a coach who doesn't listen to all of your negative comments.

Whoa there, where did I make negative comments? I said I've never heard of him and he's not on Scout or Rivals. Those are just facts. I'd be thrilled if he was a great player, and I certainly hope he is.

There are a lot of great players that were never heard of at this level, but someone saw their ability and took a chance. On the other hand there have big names that didn't turn out as well as expected. Matt is going to be a great asset to your team, wait and she. Thanks!

So a year later....how's the player you've never heard of work out?

Did he hold his own against anyone?

A Dallas Paper reports that Matt Signed with UTPA after turning down 14 D-1 schools and 23 D-2 programs. I wish him luck.
