Memories of GW football

NJ Colonial posted some fascinating stories about GW football on GWHoops the other day, about the last few years of the program, which stopped after the 1966 season. The team was pretty decent for awhile there, and was also one of the first to integrate in the Southern Conference, which is cool. Something else interesting is that Alphonse "Tuffy" Leemans, who played for GW in the 1930s, later became an NFL hall of famer.

Check out the article here, and some great photos.

Here's more on GW Football from the (great) GW Encyclopedia. Fun fact: GW is 1-0 all time in bowl games, beating Texas Western (now UTEP) in the 1956 Sun Bowl.
