GW loses a close one to Butler; guest blogging for GW Sports

Last Saturday I got the opportunity to guest-blog for GW at the Butler game, and it was pretty awesome. I'll spare the full readout for GW's site, but in general, it was a great experience. For one, there was a tailgate with free Hill Country BBQ, which is delicious, and free beer (good beer too, like DC Brau.) Unfortunately Hill Country doesn't bring their sausage to catering events, which is my favorite (it is amazing) but the rest of their grub is still really good. GW coaches and staff spoke, Big George, the First Ladies and the band were there, and a big crowd of students and alums.

As for the game, GW went down big, at one point by as a much as 17 points, but fought their way back to a 1 point margin with a few seconds to go. Unfortunately, despite a few looks the shots didn't fall, and the Bulldogs escaped with a win.

I got to check out the press conferences after the game, and Isaiah Armwood and Coach Lonergan both emphasized that they played great while down by a lot, but need to play with the urgency throughout the game. It was a great game though, and the press folks I talked to and Butler's coach Brad Stevens at the press conference all talked about GW's great freshmen and potential. Looking forward to seeing how things go the rest of the season!

Up next is VCU in Richmond on Saturday, should be a good game! More on that to come! And see below for a collection of tweets and photos from the game by me and other fans.
